PRI Robotics built its reputation in the automated welding arena.

Today, our completed project list includes automated machine tending, assembling medical devices, inspections systems for welds, adhesive application, and material handling to name a few solutions we’ve provided beside weld cells. We like the easy projects, but if your manufacturing problem has complexity or variability or you think it should but can’t be automated then we would love to hear from you.

Meet Our Summer Intern

Our summer intern, Josh, is attending Hennepin Technical College to earn a degree in Automation Robotics Engineering Technology.

We also have great people who have graduated from Dunwoody’s Automated Systems & Robotics and their Mechanical Engineering & Drafting programs and Central Lake’s – Staples Robotics / Automated Systems Technology program.

One of us attended the program over 20 years ago. Now that’s some depth of experience!

On the other hand, some of our technicians were not born when PRI Robotics was installing robots we still support today.

Senior Automation/Mechanical Engineer

PRI Robotics & Automation ( located in Plymouth, MN is an integrator of robotic systems with an extensive history of providing productive manufacturing solutions.  We are looking to immediately hire an experienced Senior Automation Engineer. Our capable team solves manufacturing requirements in welding, machine load/unload/tending, dispensing, material handling, assembly, and quality control with custom designed automation solutions. 
For this position, reporting to the Director of Engineering, we want an Automation, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial or Systems engineer with experience in automation and design.  This Senior-Level role offers the opportunity to collaborate with other customers, sales people and other engineers and have hands-on responsibilities from concept & machine design through testing & implementation in delivering a wide range of custom automated solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with sales and engineering teams on application/automation solution design
  • Produce technical concept drawings and / or technical descriptions for proposed solutions
  • Perform budgetary cost analysis for sales and engineering teams.
  • Design and detail solutions in SolidWorks and collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Project
  • Management, and Electrical / Controls team members during the product design stage
  • Contact and utilize expertise of suppliers, seeking input on component capabilities
  • Research and specify purchased components to complete product/system build
  • Serve as technical contact during product build and testing
  • Work together with on problem resolution and troubleshooting throughout the project
  • Provide technical documentation and technical support as needed
Qualifications and Experience:
  • A bachelor or master’s degree in engineering or a combination of education and experience is required
  • A minimum of seven years of experience in automation design, machine design, development, and engineering of automation equipment
  • Experience with machining or welding capabilities, highly desired
  • Robotics and programming experience preferred (Fanuc Integrator)

Educating future robotic technicians

When Jay Gerdin at Anoka Technical College approached us about collaborating on a new welding cell for their students, we jumped at the chance to work with them. Utilizing their internal capabilities for fabrication and welding, Anoka Tech built the weld cell enclosure and delivered it to PRI Robotics.

We installed a FANUC 100iC/12 Robot Arm 6-Axis 12 kg payload, 56.0″ reach robot with ArcTool software supplied by Lincoln Electric. Lincoln is a world leader in the design, development and manufacture of arc welding products, robotic arc welding systems, plasma and oxyfuel cutting equipment. Leveraging PRI Robotics’ core competency in creating complete welding and training systems, we created a unique system to meet Anoka Tech’s needs.


Through listening, collaboration, design, integration, and world-class customer service, PRI Robotics is an industry leader in automated welding and fixturing solutions. We serve industries as diverse as automotive, recreational vehicles, transportation, material handling, pipe manufacturing, and heavy industry.


PRI Robotics & Automation Host APICS Event

pri-robotics-event presentersPRI Robotics & Automation and Technical Tool Products were pleased to host October’s APICS Professional Development Meeting on a beautiful fall day. APICS ( is the premier professional association for supply chain management professionals. Working with Michael Geiselman, the event coordinator, the topic selected was “Present & Future of Robotics in Manufacturing & Material Handling”.

During the event

  • Various team members shared their expertise in sessions on Demand Generation, Project Definition, Project Build,  and Project Implementation.
  • Attendees participated in a fun hands-on session with Tools and Material Handling equipment from Atlas Copco, Gorbel, Demag, and Advanced Manipulator.
  • APICS members toured PRI Robotics & Automation and witnessed various robotic applications utilizing Fanuc robots and integrated components to provide CNC Machine Tending.
  • The tour also provided an opportunity to witness Part, Pick & Sort to conveying equipment featuring Fanuc IR-Vision and Graco’s G-Flex 1500 parts feeder.

3 New Engineering Interns To Our Team

PRI Robotics has added three new engineering interns to our team. Brandon O’Brien, Cullen Steinhauser and Michael Coughlin will be helping our engineers and technicians with various projects throughout the summer. They are currently working on an economy robot package, 3D modeling, dimensioning, and full assemblies of different parts.  PRI is happy to have their help and proud to offer this educational opportunity.

All three interns will be going back to school in the fall, when the internship ends. Cullen will be entering his Junior year at Iowa State University, Michael will be a senior at North Dakota State University, and Brandon will be continuing his education at Dunwoody College of Technology.
